Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.
Victory also means he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.
But the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved service.
He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.
The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.
The opponent saved four initial break points in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
