Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
